Second-floor laundry rooms are standard in newer Charlotte subdivisions. Those runs cross cold attic space to a roof cap. Moist air condenses inside the metal. Lint sticks to the wet wall and cakes. Clothes start needing two cycles through humid summer months. Rerouting the run out a nearby gable or sidewall shortens it and gets the duct out of the coldest part of the attic.

Length is the real constraint. Every 90-degree elbow adds equivalent feet to the total developed length, and the dryer's install sheet lists what the blower can push. A reroute is worth doing when it removes elbows, not just when it looks tidier. Rigid metal works best. Joints get sealed with foil tape instead of screws, since screw tips collect lint inside the pipe.

Under older ranch homes, crawlspace runs sag. Foil duct holds water in the low spot, then separates at a joint and blows lint and moisture under the floor. The fix is usually a short straight path through the rim joist to a sidewall hood with a damper that swings.
