Why does the lint collect at the roof cap?

Because that is where the air finally cools. A second-floor laundry room pushes warm, wet exhaust through a long attic run. The attic is cold in winter. Moisture condenses inside the pipe, and lint sticks to the wet metal. It builds into a crust near the cap, not near the dryer. Cleaning only the first few feet from the laundry room misses it.

Roof caps add a second problem. Dampers break off or rust open. Birds and squirrels move in. We pull nest material out of caps on Charlotte roofs often, usually in spring. A packed cap chokes airflow even when the duct behind it is clean. The cap gets inspected and cleared from above, not guessed at from inside.

Brushing is done through the run, with the dryer disconnected and airflow checked at the termination. You can test the result yourself: run the dryer and hold your hand at the cap, or watch whether a load still needs a second cycle.
